Scones – A Thank You and a Blessing

Scones – A Thank You and a Blessing

For twenty years now, Maureen has risen early, tying her apron in the quiet stillness of the morning, hands working dough with practiced love. By the time the town stirs awake, the smell of her fresh scones drifts through air on their way to The Cross Café, welcoming neighbours, travellers, and friends alike.

The other day Maureen received a card, inside someone had written:

“Good Morning. Every Thursday I meet with my friends in The Cross café, (the highlight of my week) and as well as the company we enjoy Scones (the highlight of my day)

So, a big thank you for taking the trouble to make these delicious scones, which are so much appreciated”

The words truly blessed Maureen. For two decades, she has poured herself quietly into her work, offering her gift without asking for recognition. To know that her small act of love had blessed someone so deeply was, in itself, a blessing.

It reminds us of the words of Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” – Acts 20:35, and also of Proverbs 11:25: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

In giving, Maureen had been blessed; and in someone’s gratitude, she felt refreshed. The card is a quiet reminder that in the simple rhythm of mixing flour, butter, and faith, she has been part of something much bigger than herself.
